The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has appealed to district administrations for their assistance in ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the NEET PG 2024 exam scheduled for August 11. The exam holds immense importance for medical students, as it significantly impacts their academic and professional futures. In a letter dated August 1, NBEMS President Dr. Abhijat Sheth stressed the critical need for a secure and uninterrupted examination process, emphasizing the national importance of the exam, which will be conducted on a pan-India basis for 2,28,542 candidates at 376 examination centers across 169 cities.
However, the All FMGs Association (AFA), representing foreign medical graduates, has raised concerns about the exam’s security after a letter from NBEMS outlining exam details was leaked on X, formerly Twitter, on August 3. The AFA questioned the security of the NEET PG paper, stating that if a confidential letter could be leaked, how could they trust the security of the actual exam paper.
Responding to these concerns, official sources maintained that the letter contained only general instructions and that a needless hype is being created around the alleged leak. They emphasized that the letter’s content did not compromise the exam’s security.
In his letter, Dr. Sheth requested support in ensuring a continuous power supply at all examination centers during the examination hours, highlighting its crucial role in maintaining electronic systems, lighting, and preventing disruptions that could negatively impact candidates’ performance and the overall examination process. He also stressed the importance of internet connectivity at all centers, essential for downloading encrypted question papers before the start of the exam and uploading candidate responses and other exam-related data to central data centers after the exam.
Furthermore, NBEMS has sought the district administrations’ assistance in maintaining law and order around the examination centers. Recognizing the high stakes involved, they have requested adequate security personnel deployment to manage crowds, traffic, and prevent any untoward incidents.
The letter underscores the importance of preserving the integrity and sanctity of the examination and requests district administrations to depute staff to observe the conduct of the examination at test centers within their jurisdiction.
Dr. Sheth concluded his letter by reiterating the crucial role of district administrations in facilitating a seamless examination process and upholding the credibility and fairness of the NEET PG 2024 exam. The letter also included a detailed schedule of the examination, including the locations of all centers, which have been shared with district administrations. NBEMS expressed confidence that with their support, the examination would be conducted successfully and without any untoward incidents for students in each district. (With inputs from PTI)
