The National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 30 released the results for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 retest. This retest was conducted exclusively for 1,563 candidates who were affected by the controversial “grace marks” and “paper leak” issues that marred the original examination.
Students who participated in the NEET UG 2024 retest can now access their marks on NTA’s official website: exams.nta.ac.in/NEET/. The NTA conducted the re-examination on June 23 for these 1,563 candidates. These individuals had initially been awarded grace marks in the NEET UG exam due to a ‘loss of time’ during the original examination. However, this decision was subsequently overturned by the Supreme Court, granting candidates the option to either take a re-test or retain their original scores excluding the grace marks.
A significant number of candidates chose to retain their original scores, with only 813 out of the 1,563 candidates actually taking the re-exam. This represents approximately 48% of the candidates opting for their original scores, excluding the grace marks.
The Haryana’s Jhajjar centre, which came under scrutiny due to several top rankers emerging from there, saw a considerable number of candidates opting for the re-exam. Out of the 494 candidates from this centre, 287—representing approximately 58% —appeared for the NEET UG 2024 re-exam.
With the re-exam results now released, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will commence the counselling process for admission to medical colleges across the country. This counselling is expected to begin on July 6.
The NEET UG exam 2024, held on May 5, saw over 24 lakh candidates vying for admission to medical colleges. The NTA declared the results on June 4, 2024, with 67 students achieving a perfect score of 720. Notably, six out of these 67 perfect scorers were from Haryana’s Jhajjar centre, leading to suspicions of possible irregularities.
The NEET-UG 2024 examination is currently under scrutiny due to allegations of paper leaks and other irregularities. Following a review, the Ministry of Education has handed over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive investigation.
Separately, the CBI is conducting its own investigation into the alleged irregularities in the NEET UG 2024 exam. As part of this investigation, officers conducted searches at seven locations in Gujarat on Saturday. These searches targeted suspects in four districts—Anand, Kheda, Ahmedabad, and Godhra—aimed at gathering evidence related to the alleged irregularities.
