The National Testing Agency (NTA) published revised NEET-UG 2024 results on Saturday, July 20, complying with the Supreme Court’s order to publish the results while masking the identities of the candidates. The revised results reveal a significant drop in scores from the Jhajjar centre in Haryana, a centre that sparked controversy after six aspirants initially scored perfect 720 out of 720.
According to the revised results, only 13 candidates from the controversial Hardayal Public School in Jhajjar scored above 600 marks. This significant drop in scores further fuels the controversy surrounding the initial results.
The controversy initially erupted when the NTA released the NEET UG results on June 4, revealing an unusually high number of candidates achieving perfect scores of 720/720. Six of these students were from the same centre in Jhajjar, raising suspicions about irregularities and potential paper leaks. The NTA initially defended the results, attributing the high scores to grace marks awarded to students due to delays in the exam at certain centres.
However, the unprecedented number of perfect scores, particularly at the Jhajjar centre, led to serious accusations and public outcry. Suspicions of tampering and potential leaks of exam papers emerged, prompting the government to intervene.
The government ultimately decided to revoke the grace marks awarded to 1,563 students, leading to a re-test. The decision was made to address concerns about fairness in the competitive exam process. The affected students were notified of their actual scores and given the choice to retake the exam. If they opt out of the re-test, their scores from the May 5 exam will stand.
The revised results, while protecting the identities of individual candidates, reveal a significant drop in scores at the Jhajjar centre, further adding fuel to the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 exam.
