Nelly Korda Withdraws from LA Championship, Ending Historic Win Streak

Nelly Korda, the American professional golfer, has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming JM Eagle LA Championship, effectively pausing her pursuit of a record-breaking sixth straight victory.

This announcement comes just days after Korda achieved her fifth consecutive win at the Chevron Championship, tying her with golf legends Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam. In a statement released on the LPGA Tour website, Korda explained that the decision was not easy, but necessary for her well-being.

“After the unbelievable week at The Chevron and grinding through the mental and physical challenges of four events in the past five weeks, I am definitely feeling exhausted,” said Korda. “With so much still to come throughout 2024, I feel I need to listen to my body and get some rest, so I can be ready for the remainder of the season.”

Korda’s recent triumph at the Chevron Championship marked her second career major victory and extended her winning streak to five in a row. The 25-year-old Floridian is yet to announce her return date to competitive play.

The JM Eagle LA Championship is scheduled to commence on Thursday at Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles, followed by the Cognizant Founders Cup in New Jersey from May 9-12. The next major tournament on the LPGA calendar is the U.S. Women’s Open, which will be held in Pennsylvania from May 30 to June 2.
