NetEase, the publisher behind the upcoming Marvel Rivals, has announced Fragpunk, a new free-to-play shooter that puts a unique spin on the popular Valorant formula. Scheduled for release on Xbox consoles and PC in 2025, Fragpunk combines the core gameplay elements of Valorant with a unique card system that adds a layer of strategic depth to each match.
In Fragpunk, players take on the role of agents with specialized abilities and battle across various maps, trying to secure zones and plant or defuse bombs. The game features an eclectic cast of characters with unique abilities, similar to Valorant. However, Fragpunk’s unique card system sets it apart from other hero shooters.
At the start of each round, each team draws three cards that they can activate. These cards create special rules for the round, adding an element of unpredictability and strategy to the gameplay. For instance, one team may activate a card that grants their bullets life steal, letting them drain health from enemies. Another card might turn the ground into ice, allowing teams to perform long slides, or turn players into zombies after they are killed, forcing the opposing team to kill them a second time.
