Netflix has reportedly scrapped plans for ‘The Rats,’ a spin-off show set in the ‘Witcher’ universe. The prequel series, which was set to focus on the group of misfits that Freya Allen’s Ciri joins at the end of Season 3, was reportedly cut short after only two months of filming due to unsatisfactory early footage.
According to Redanian Intelligence, the show’s filming was cut short by several months, and the footage shot is reportedly only enough for one or two episodes. Netflix is now considering incorporating the filmed footage into Season 4 flashbacks or releasing it as a short.
This news comes just days after Netflix announced that ‘The Witcher’ will conclude with Season 5, meaning the final three books in the Witcher saga will be condensed into two seasons. Seasons 4 and 5 will film back to back, and Netflix is also working on a second animated film set in the ‘Witcher’ universe.
The decision to scrap the spin-off show may be related to the departure of series star Henry Cavill, who announced last year that he would be leaving the show after Season 3. Liam Hemsworth is set to take over the role of Geralt of Rivia in Season 4.
