The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has summoned the Content Head of Netflix tomorrow, according to sources. This action comes in the wake of a growing controversy surrounding the web series ‘IC 814’, which focuses on the 1999 hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight by the Pakistan-based terrorist group Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.
‘IC 814’, directed by Anubhav Sinha, is inspired by the book ‘Flight Into Fear: The Captain’s Story’, written by Devi Sharan, the captain of the hijacked flight, and journalist Srinjoy Chowdhury. The series has faced criticism for its portrayal of the sensitive event, with concerns raised about its potential impact and accuracy.
The Ministry’s summons to Netflix’s Content Head suggests that the government is taking the controversy seriously and may be seeking clarifications or addressing concerns related to the web series’ content. The situation highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the depiction of sensitive historical events in entertainment content and the potential need for balancing creative freedom with societal sensitivities.
