New Art Gallery and Reservation-Only Bar Open in Kyoto’s Iconic Circle Park

Nestled within the verdant expanse of Kyoto’s Circle Park, renowned for its exquisite gardens and cherry blossoms, a new art gallery named “KOCHI” has emerged, adding to the park’s cultural allure. The gallery’s inaugural exhibition, “BLACK MONN KYOTO,” presents the captivating works of acclaimed artist Enlightenment Hiro Sugiyama. Sugiyama’s distinct Black Painting series invites viewers to explore the boundaries between figuration and abstraction. Inspired by iconic artworks spanning from traditional Japanese prints to Western masterpieces, Sugiyama distills their essence, reducing them to stark silhouettes and filling their interiors with deep black. Through this process, he invites us to contemplate the very nature of artistic representation. Beyond the gallery’s inspiring art, a hidden gem awaits – an exclusive, reservation-only bar named “BAR Kaoru.” Conceptualized by legendary bartender Minoru Nishida, the bar draws inspiration from a well discovered during the building’s renovation. This well serves as the heart of the bar’s concept, “Mother of Water.” Nishida’s signature creations utilize the well’s pristine water, offering a unique and refreshing experience. With only 14 seats available and a carefully curated menu, BAR Kaoru fosters an intimate and indulgent atmosphere. The bar’s design intentionally maintains a spacious distance between bartenders and guests, allowing for a more relaxed and contemplative ambiance. In the near future, the Circle Park complex will also welcome a cafe that will incorporate the well’s water into its offerings. While BAR Kaoru operates on a referral basis, the gallery itself is open to the public, welcoming art enthusiasts to immerse themselves in Sugiyama’s thought-provoking works and the park’s serene beauty. Whether seeking artistic inspiration or an extraordinary culinary experience, Circle Park’s new gallery and bar offer a tantalizing blend of culture and indulgence.
