Although August has just begun, new games for PlayStation Plus, Sony’s video game subscription service, won’t be available right away. However, it’s an excellent time to catch up on some recently added games to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra Game Catalogs. Last month’s lineup was particularly impressive, featuring a variety of titles from PSP games to exciting sports games. If you’re looking for something to play this weekend, consider one of these recent additions.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
If you’ve played Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and were confused by Zack Fair’s appearance, then you’ll want to play Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. This comprehensive remaster of the PSP game delves into Zack Fair’s time as a SOLDIER and his ultimate sacrifice to save Cloud. Gameplay-wise, it’s an action-RPG reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, with a unique slot machine element in battles that provides players with bonus rewards for matching slots. The PS4 and PS5 versions of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion are part of the PS Plus Extra game catalog. It’s also available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Steep
If you’re in the mood for something more suited to quick play sessions than Crisis Core, then check out Steep from Ubisoft. Steep is a straightforward open-world extreme sports game where players can ski, snowboard, paraglide, fly in a wingsuit, and more around snowy mountaintops from around the world. It’s the closest any game has come to capturing the spirit of SSX in recent years and offers the kind of open-world freedom expected from a Ubisoft game. You can also enjoy Steep with your friends. PS Plus Extra’s game catalog now includes the PS4 version of Steep, and it’s also available on PC and Xbox One.
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, added to PS Plus Premium’s game catalog in July, brings a solid PSP spinoff of Insomniac’s iconic franchise to home consoles for the first time. The story follows the titular pair as their vacation is interrupted when a girl they meet is kidnapped by robots. This results in another sci-fi 3D platforming adventure where players use a variety of unique weapons to defeat enemies. Size Matters may feel slightly dated and less polished compared to more recent Ratchet & Clank games, but it provides PS5 owners with another game to enjoy after completing Rift Apart. Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters is available for purchase on PS4 and PS5, but you can access it for free with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
