The New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism (NJTT) recently unveiled a report showcasing the robust recovery of the state’s tourism industry in 2023. The report highlights that New Jersey welcomed 120.5 million visitors, a 5% increase from 2022 and 4% above the pre-pandemic milestone of 2019. This surge in tourism has resulted in a notable economic impact, with visitor expenditures reaching $49.1 billion, a remarkable 6% higher than in 2019 and an 8% increase from the previous year. The increase in spending was driven by various sectors, including food and beverages, recreation, transportation, retail, and lodging, particularly in hotel accommodations. The report also reveals that day-trippers alone spent a record-breaking $6.372 million. This economic resurgence has contributed to an overall economic impact of $78.3 billion and generated $5.2 billion in state and local tax revenues. Governor Phil Murphy expressed his delight at the strong travel and tourism activity, acknowledging the significant economic impacts it has brought to the state. He commended the outstanding workers within the tourism industry and the people of New Jersey for serving as excellent ambassadors of their state. Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way emphasized the vital role tourism plays in the state’s economy, underscoring the $5.2 billion generated in state and local taxes and the support for over 501,000 jobs. As summer 2024 approaches, NJTT has launched an aggressive marketing campaign, ‘Little State, Lotta WOW’, to captivate travelers with digital and print advertisements at New York Penn Station. This campaign is complemented by the New Jersey WOW Mobile Experience in Times Square, offering an immersive multimedia experience that portrays the vibrant sights and sounds of New Jersey. These promotional efforts aim to position New Jersey as a top travel destination in the Mid-Atlantic region, promising memorable experiences at its beaches, mountains, cultural sites, and more.
