The halls of 10 Downing Street have welcomed a new furry resident! UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has introduced Prince, a Siberian white kitten, to the world, and to his official residence. Prince joins the ranks of the famous ‘Chief Mouser’ of Downing Street, Larry, and the Starmer family’s previously rescued cat, JoJo.
A photograph released by the Prime Minister’s office shows the fluffy white kitten perched atop Starmer’s desk, paws resting on his documents. It remains unclear if the cat’s name is a tribute to an American singer or a nod to British royalty.
The arrival of Prince came after “long negotiations” with Starmer’s children, who were hoping to bring a dog into their new home. “This is a big move for them, and negotiating for a fantastic kitten called Prince was part of the deal,” Starmer shared.
Prince’s entry into the UK Prime Minister’s house has sparked rumors of Larry’s eventual passing as the cat’s age advances. Media reports indicate that Downing Street has already set plans in place to announce the feline’s death. However, Larry, ever the steadfast resident, isn’t ready to relinquish his position. “My position as best looking cat on Downing Street remains unchallenged,” Larry announced on his X account, in response to a photo of Starmer with Prince.
Larry arrived at Downing Street in 2011 and has become one of its longest-standing residents. Over the past 14 years, while five prime ministers have served and departed, Larry has remained a steadfast presence, receiving accolades from both the media and the public for his enduring dedication to his role.
It seems Downing Street is set to become a feline haven, with Prince joining the ranks of the famous Larry, and JoJo. The new kitten’s arrival promises to bring new adventures and a dose of feline charm to the Prime Minister’s residence.
