New Port in Murmansk to Boost Regional Economy

The construction of a new port in the far northwestern Murmansk region of Russia is expected to boost the local economy by creating new jobs and attracting investments. The port, which is scheduled to be completed by 2028, will be built by Belarusian investors under an agreement signed with the Murmansk regional government. It is projected to handle 25-30 million tons of cargo annually, including bulk cargo and petroleum products. The port’s construction is considered a strategic project for the region, as it will increase railway capacity and provide additional work opportunities for residents. The Belarusian investment in the port is seen as a sign of the close economic ties between Russia and Belarus, which have remained strong despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The port is expected to contribute to the expansion of the export potential of both Russia and Belarus.
