In the wake of a new video emerging in the Pune Porsche accident case, the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, has demanded a judicial enquiry into the incident. The video allegedly shows the 17-year-old accused drinking with friends at a pub before the accident, which resulted in the deaths of two techies, Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa.
The video has raised questions about the police investigation, as earlier reports had stated that the accused’s blood alcohol test was negative. Wadettiwar has questioned how the minor accused was able to access alcohol and why it took so long to arrest the accused’s father.
The Pune Police have arrested the bar owner and the person who served liquor to the minor accused on the night of the accident. The accused’s father, who is a prominent real-estate developer in the city, has been booked under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
The minor accused was released on bail by the juvenile justice board (JJB) on May 20 with conditions like writing an essay on the accident and working with traffic police for 15 days.
Wadettiwar has called for a judicial enquiry into the accident, citing concerns about the police investigation and the involvement of a minor with access to alcohol. The new video has further fueled these concerns and demands for a fair and independent investigation into the incident.
