Newcastle Airport Gears Up for Summer Surge with £20 Million Investment and Enhanced Passenger Experience

In anticipation of a busy summer travel season, Newcastle Airport has announced a £20 million investment in upgrades to enhance the passenger experience. With over 3.5 million passengers expected this summer, these upgrades aim to provide travelers with a seamless and enjoyable journey.

The most notable upgrade is a complete remodeling of the security search area, featuring advanced scanning technologies that allow passengers to keep liquids and electronics in their hand luggage, streamlining the screening process. Passengers are advised to visit the airport’s website for the latest security regulations.

In response to passenger feedback, the departure lounge has been transformed with a range of dining options. Aster & Thyme offers a luxurious setting with panoramic views and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner featuring local ingredients. Soul + Grain introduces a ‘food to go’ concept with freshly prepared meals, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Tap + Brew has been modernized and now offers a variety of local stotties and beers, including gluten-free options from Full Circle.

The Aspire Executive Lounge has expanded to accommodate over 300 guests and now boasts the innovative ‘3-tier’ product. This lounge offers three distinct options – Aspire, Luxe, and Suite – each providing varying levels of complimentary food and beverages to suit different budgets.

In terms of destinations, travelers can choose from 41 weekly flights to Turkey, 93 to Spain and the Balearics, and 42 to Greece. New flights have been added to destinations such as Alicante, Chania, Cape Verde, and Sharm el Sheikh. AEGEAN, the airport’s newest airline partner, will continue to offer twice-weekly flights to Athens.

Dean Ward, Director of Commercial at Newcastle International Airport, said: “We are committed to providing the best possible customer experience and the recent investments over the winter period are a fantastic example of this.”

These upgrades demonstrate Newcastle Airport’s commitment to providing a world-class passenger experience for the increasing number of travelers passing through its gates.
