Newcastle United’s League Cup Match Moved to St. James’ Park After Wimbledon Flooding

Newcastle United’s League Cup third-round match against fourth-tier AFC Wimbledon will be played at St. James’ Park on October 1st. The match was originally scheduled for Tuesday at Wimbledon’s Plough Lane, but was postponed due to severe flooding in South London that caused significant pitch damage.

To accommodate the match, Newcastle United, AFC Wimbledon, and the competition’s management committee agreed to move the fixture to the North East. As a result, AFC Wimbledon has also postponed its League Two match against Crewe Alexandra, which was also scheduled for October 1st.

The move to St. James’ Park provides a suitable venue for the match, allowing fans to enjoy the League Cup action while ensuring the safety and quality of the playing surface. This decision reflects the collaborative effort between the clubs and the competition organizers to prioritize the integrity of the game and the well-being of the players.
