Alexander Isak has established himself as a vital player for Newcastle United since joining from Real Sociedad in 2022. With 11 goals in his first season and 21 in the current campaign, including 17 in the Premier League, he ranks alongside Mohamed Salah in the scoring charts.
Despite his significance to Newcastle, there have been suggestions that the club could consider offers for Isak in the summer. CEO Darren Eales has indicated the need to sell assets to comply with financial regulations and fund future transfers.
Arsenal has emerged as a contender for Isak’s signature, seeking to bolster their attack alongside Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah. However, Barcelona is reportedly set to compete with Arsenal for the Swedish striker ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Isak’s contract extends until 2028, and Newcastle is believed to be seeking a fee of around £90 million. Barcelona, facing financial challenges, is likely to negotiate a lower transfer cost.
Robert Lewandowski remains Barcelona’s primary striker, but with his age (36 in August), the club sees Isak as a potential long-term replacement. Isak has previous experience in Spain, scoring 44 goals in 132 appearances for Real Sociedad.
