Newlywed Indian-Origin Man Shot Dead in Road Rage Incident in Indiana

A tragic incident unfolded in Indianapolis, Indiana, claiming the life of a 29-year-old newlywed Indian-origin man, Gavin Dasaur. The incident, believed to be a case of road rage, occurred on July 12th, just over two weeks after Dasaur tied the knot with his Mexican wife, Viviana ZaMora.

According to reports, Dasaur was driving home with his wife when he encountered an altercation with the driver of a Chevy pickup truck. Witnesses told police that the shooting stemmed from this road rage incident.

The Indianapolis Police Department (IMPD) responded to the scene shortly after 8 pm on Tuesday, finding Dasaur lying in the middle of the road with at least one gunshot wound. His wife, Viviana, confirmed his identity and recounted the harrowing experience. “I held him as he bled out and I was waiting for the ambulance,” she told The Indianapolis Star.

The suspected shooter was detained at the scene, but after an investigation and consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, he was released. The police spokesperson suggested that the shooter may have acted in self-defense, but the investigation is ongoing.

Dasaur’s wife, deeply grieving her husband’s loss, condemned the shooting. “He was a hardworking man that always went out of his way to help anyone and wanted to give the world to me and his family,” she shared with a local news outlet.

Cell phone footage captured by another driver at the scene provides a glimpse into the altercation. The video shows Dasaur exiting his car at the intersection, appearing agitated and yelling at the driver of the pickup truck. A handgun is clearly visible in his right hand. Dasaur punches the truck’s door with the gun in his hand and then switches the gun to his left hand while simultaneously raising his right hand towards the truck’s window.

In response, the driver of the pickup truck fired three shots. Dasaur immediately falls to the ground. The shooter remained in his vehicle throughout the confrontation, which lasted only seven seconds.

As the investigation into this heartbreaking incident continues, the community mourns the loss of a young man who had just begun his life with his wife.
