Newton overcame a one-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored three runs off Hackettstown to earn an 8-7 victory in their high school baseball matchup.
Mason Bucci was the offensive star for Newton, going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, and five RBI. Braxton Guerra added two hits and two RBI, while Maxwell Maslowski and Ryan Bollette each contributed two hits.
Hackettstown had taken a 7-5 lead in the top of the seventh inning, but Newton rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Guerra and an RBI single by Bollette. With the bases loaded and one out, Bucci then delivered the game-winning hit, a single to left field that scored two runs.
The win improves Newton’s record to 2-9 on the season, while Hackettstown falls to 5-4.
