NEXTCHEM’s Hydrogen Technology Selected for Dung Quat Refinery Expansion in Vietnam

NEXTCHEM, a leading provider of sustainable technology solutions, has achieved a major milestone in its expansion into the Asian market. Through its subsidiary, KT Tech, the company has been awarded a contract by Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR) to supply its NX ReformTM hydrogen technology for the Dung Quat Refinery’s upgrade and expansion project in Vietnam.

This strategic partnership involves more than just licensing and process design. KT Tech will also provide the Process Design Package (PDP) for a new hydrogen production unit, ensuring a seamless integration into the existing refinery infrastructure. The unit, designed with a capacity of 22,676 cubic meters per hour (Nm3/h), will leverage KT Tech’s proprietary NX ReformTM hydrogen technology, which is known for its cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability.

The NX ReformTM technology empowers cost-effective hydrogen production while offering the potential to significantly reduce the carbon footprint through the incorporation of CO2 capture technology. This innovative solution offers remarkable flexibility in terms of feedstock and capacity, ensuring adaptability and resilience in hydrogen production.

The core of the solution lies in proven and widely adopted steam methane reforming methods, ensuring high operational efficiency and reliability. Beyond the design and licensing phase, KT Tech will also supply the proprietary equipment for the steam methane reforming process during the construction phase, solidifying its commitment to a comprehensive and integrated approach.

Alessandro Bernini, MAIRE CEO, expressed his pride in this achievement, stating, “We are proud of this important achievement, which confirms our excellent track-record in upgrading existing production plants to enhance efficiency and achieve lower consumptions, thanks to our leading technological know-how and unparalleled process engineering capabilities.”

This collaboration marks a significant step forward for NEXTCHEM and BSR, showcasing the potential of sustainable hydrogen technology to contribute to a greener future. With its commitment to innovation and sustainable solutions, NEXTCHEM is poised to play a vital role in the global energy transition.
