NFI Industries, a leading third-party logistics provider, is now putting Tesla’s Semi trucks to the test in its daily operations. This news follows PepsiCo’s adoption of the electric truck, showcasing the growing interest in sustainable transportation solutions.
NFI announced on LinkedIn that they’ve been using Tesla Semis for deliveries on routes ranging from 250 to 450 miles. The company reported an impressive efficiency of 1.64kwh/mile during these trials.
Tesla initially unveiled the Semi truck in 2017 and delivered a limited number to PepsiCo in December 2022. In May, Dan Priestly, Tesla’s Senior Manager of Semi Truck Engineering, revealed that the company is expanding its partnership with PepsiCo by delivering 50 additional Semis, bringing the total number of Semis in PepsiCo’s fleet to 86.
Tesla is gearing up for mass production of the Semi, aiming to begin production by the end of 2025. The company is currently preparing its high-volume Semi factory at the Nevada gigafactory, with a projected annual capacity of 50,000 units. Tesla plans to start delivering Semis to external customers in 2026.
The successful pilot program with NFI highlights the growing acceptance and potential of electric trucks in the logistics industry. As Tesla ramps up production, we can expect to see more widespread adoption of these sustainable vehicles, contributing to a cleaner and more efficient transportation sector.
