The NFL boasts a network of connections akin to Kevin Bacon’s in the entertainment industry. ESPN’s Adam Schefter unearthed an unexpected connection between Bo Nix and the Los Angeles Rams. As Schefter discovered, Rams general manager Les Snead once worked alongside Nix’s father, Patrick, at Auburn University in 1983. Snead, then a graduate assistant, witnessed the elder Nix play quarterback for the 11-0 Auburn Tigers.
Nix, a potential NFL Draft prospect, could potentially land with the Rams, who hold the 19th overall pick. However, The New York Post’s Steve Serby predicts that Nix will be selected 12th by the Denver Broncos in his latest mock draft. Nix, who played at Auburn for three seasons and Oregon for two, showcased his abilities by finishing third in the Heisman Trophy voting this past season.
In addition to Nix, former Washington quarterback Michael Penix has emerged as a potential option for the Rams, who acquired a first-round draft pick for the first time since 2019. Despite Matthew Stafford’s contract extending through 2026, he has no guaranteed money remaining after this season. Should the Rams release Stafford before 2025, they would incur a $47 million dead cap penalty.
Furthermore, the Rams are seeking to bolster their defense following the retirement of legendary pass rusher Aaron Donald. Last season, the Rams finished 10-7, ranking second in the NFC West. Their playoff run ended in a narrow 24-23 defeat in the first round to the Detroit Lions.
