Nikhat Zareen Exits Paris Olympics in Round of 16

Nikhat Zareen, the two-time world champion boxer representing India, faced a tough defeat in the women’s 50kg boxing round of 16 at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She lost 0-5 on points to top seed Wu Yu of China at the North Paris Arena on Thursday.

Wu Yu dominated the bout, winning the first round with four out of five judges ruling in her favor. She continued her strong performance, taking the second round 3-2 and ultimately securing a convincing victory in the third.

Nikhat, known for her impressive record, had only lost two bouts since 2022. She is also the Commonwealth Games champion and an Asian Games bronze medalist. Her Olympic journey began with a hard-fought win against Germany’s Maxi Kloetzer 5-0, but she couldn’t replicate that success against the formidable Wu Yu.

This loss marks a disappointing end to Nikhat Zareen’s campaign at the Paris Olympics, as she was a strong contender for a medal. However, her previous achievements, including two world championships and a Commonwealth Games gold, highlight her talent and dedication to the sport.
