The Ambani family, renowned for its immense wealth and influence in India, is constantly in the public eye. While Mukesh Ambani and his brother Anil Ambani are well-known figures in the business world, there are other members of the family who prefer to remain out of the spotlight. One such individual is Nina Kothari, Mukesh Ambani’s sister, who has forged a successful path in business and amassed considerable wealth.
Nina, born into the esteemed Ambani family as the daughter of the late Dhirubhai Ambani, founder of Reliance Industries, embarked on her entrepreneurial journey in 2003 with the launch of the Javagreen food and coffee franchise. While Javagreen didn’t achieve the same level of success as other major coffee chains, it showcased Nina’s entrepreneurial spirit and acumen. In 1986, she married businessman Bhadrashyam Kothari, who sadly passed away from cancer in 2015.
After her husband’s death, Nina found herself facing the immense responsibility of raising their two children, Arjun and Nayantara, while also taking on the mantle of their family business, Kothari Sugars and Chemicals Limited. She rose to the challenge with determination, proving herself to be a capable and dedicated leader.
Nina’s appointment as Chairperson of Kothari Sugars and Chemicals Limited on April 8, 2015, marked a significant turning point in her life. With unwavering patience and tenacity, she guided the company to new heights, solidifying its position as the flagship enterprise of the HC Kothari Group. Under her leadership, the company has expanded its operations, now headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Beyond her role as Chairperson, Nina oversees two other companies under the HC Kothari Group: Kothari Petrochemicals Limited and Kothari Safe Deposits Limited. Her eldest son, Arjun Kothari, collaborates with his mother as the Managing Director of Kothari Sugars and Chemicals Limited, contributing to the growth of the family business. Meanwhile, Nina’s daughter, Nayantara, is married to Shamit Bhartia, grandson of KK Birla and son of Shyam and Shobhana Bhartia.
Nina’s financial worth is substantial, mirroring her brother’s success. Corporate shareholdings indicate that Nina possesses a net worth exceeding Rs 52.4 crores and owns two publicly traded stocks. Kothari Sugars & Chemicals Ltd., a company within the sugar industry, boasts a market capitalization of Rs. 435 crores, according to ICICI Direct.
Nina Kothari’s journey exemplifies resilience, determination, and a dedication to building a legacy. She has proven that success can be achieved through hard work, even within the shadow of a prominent family, carving her own path and establishing a significant mark in the Indian business landscape.
