Epic Games has been known for its collaborations with celebrities and video game characters across various franchises. However, when it comes to Nintendo, things have been a bit more complicated. Epic Games CEO Donald Mustard expressed his desire to bring Samus Aran from the Metroid franchise to Fortnite. However, Nintendo declined the offer, emphasizing that they prefer to keep their exclusive characters exclusive to their own platforms.
In an interview with Game File, Mustard mentioned that Epic had hoped to secure three console skins for Fortnite – Halo’s Master Chief from Xbox, God of War’s Kratos from PlayStation, and Metroid’s Samus Aran from Nintendo. While Master Chief and Kratos made their way into the game, Samus Aran’s inclusion was denied by Nintendo.
Nintendo’s decision stems from their policy of keeping their exclusive characters exclusive to their own platforms. They are willing to collaborate on in-game items that are original designs by Epic, but they are not open to having their iconic characters appear on other platforms. This stance has prevented Nintendo characters from appearing in Fortnite, despite the game’s immense popularity across multiple platforms.
Epic Games, on the other hand, believes that cross-platform availability is essential for maintaining a consistent Fortnite experience for all players. They want to ensure that all players have access to the same content, regardless of the device or platform they use. Nintendo’s refusal to allow Samus Aran in Fortnite highlights the challenges that Epic Games faces in securing collaborations with Nintendo.
