The gaming world is buzzing with excitement (and a bit of skepticism) over a recent leak concerning the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Trusted tech experts at Digital Foundry are leaning towards the leak’s authenticity, based on meticulous analysis and cross-referencing with previous information.
The leak itself offers a treasure trove of details, including stunningly detailed renders and photos of what appears to be a prototype. The renders showcase a larger console with a significant design change – the Joy-Cons are now attached via magnetic rails. They also point towards an impressive 8-inch LCD screen and two USB-C ports.
Digital Foundry has delved deep into the source material, scrutinizing the renders and photos. They’ve even pointed to leaked Taiwanese shipping manifests as further evidence supporting the leak’s authenticity.
There are two key components to the leak: the assembly model and the CAD drawings. The assembly model photos, showcasing the motherboard and other internal components, are considered the most reliable aspect of the leak. Digital Foundry emphasizes that it would be near impossible to convincingly fake such a complex motherboard.
The CAD drawings, however, deserve a little more scrutiny. While they align with details revealed in other leaks, Digital Foundry warns that it’s always possible for someone to create fake renders.
Adding another layer of intrigue to the leak, a Chinese YouTuber, Xiao Ning Zi, 3D printed a Switch 2 based on the leaked drawings. While the accuracy of the 3D printed model can’t be fully verified, it aligns with the specs and renders, including the larger screen size.
The leak also sheds light on potential specifications, including a 256GB storage capacity and an upgraded 8nm T239 SoC processor.
While Nintendo hasn’t officially confirmed any details about the Switch 2, they have hinted at its existence and an anticipated announcement within this fiscal year.
The buzz surrounding this leak is undeniable. With a potential release date looming, the gaming community anxiously awaits confirmation from Nintendo and a glimpse into the future of the beloved Switch console.
