NIO Expands Charging Network and Battery Swap Stations in China

NIO, a leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in China, has outlined ambitious plans to expand its charging network and battery swap station infrastructure across the country. At the Power Up 2024 event in Wuhan, Hubei province, the company unveiled its “Power Up Counties” program. This initiative aims to provide charging access to every county-level administrative region in China by June 30, 2025.

Furthermore, NIO intends to extend its battery swap station network to encompass all 2,300 counties across 27 provincial-level administrative regions by December 31, 2025. As of today, NIO operates a robust network of 2,480 battery swap stations, 2,322 supercharging stations with 10,577 charging piles, and 1,627 destination charging stations with 12,432 charging piles.

NIO’s commitment to expanding its charging infrastructure aligns with its ambitious growth strategy. At the NIO Day 2023 event, the company announced plans to add 1,000 new battery swap stations in China by 2024. While NIO founder and CEO William Li indicated that this goal might be postponed, the company’s recent announcements demonstrate its unwavering dedication to providing a comprehensive charging experience for its customers.

In a significant move, NIO Power, the company’s power division, will establish a new 20,000-square-meter battery swap station manufacturing facility in Wuhan. This facility will have an annual production capacity of over 1,000 battery swap stations. NIO already operates two other factories dedicated to assembling battery swap stations in Kunshan, Jiangsu province, and Hefei, Anhui province.

NIO’s expansion plans underscore its commitment to providing a seamless and convenient charging experience for its EV customers in China. The company’s focus on expanding its charging infrastructure and battery swap station network positions it for continued growth and market leadership in the rapidly evolving EV market.
