NIRF Rankings 2024: IISc Bengaluru Tops the List, New Categories Introduced

The Ministry of Education has released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 rankings, revealing the top-performing universities in India. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has once again secured its position as the best university in the country, marking another achievement for the institute, known for its consistent top ranking in previous years.

The NIRF rankings 2024 introduced three new categories: Open Universities, Skill Universities, and State-Funded Government Universities. This addition reflects the growing diversity and specialization within the Indian higher education system. Furthermore, AICTE chairperson Anil Sahasrabudhe announced plans to introduce a ‘Sustainability Ranking’ category next year, highlighting the increasing emphasis on environmental responsibility in higher education.

The ninth edition of the NIRF rankings continues to provide a comprehensive assessment of higher education institutions across India, evaluating them based on various parameters, including teaching, learning, and resources (TLR), research and professional practice (RP), graduation outcomes (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI), and perception (PR).

Here are the top 10 universities in NIRF 2024:
