Nitesh Kumar, an Indian para-badminton player, etched his name in the history books by securing India’s second gold medal at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. In a thrilling Men’s Singles SL3 final at the La Chapelle Arena Court 1, Kumar overcame a tough challenge from Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell, defeating him 2-1 after an intense battle lasting over an hour and 20 minutes. This victory was particularly significant as it marked Kumar’s first win against Bethell in their 10 encounters, showcasing his growth and determination in the sport.

Kumar’s commitment to the sport is evident in his numerous achievements. He began his competitive journey in 2016 at the nationals in Faridabad, securing a bronze medal. In 2017, he claimed victory at the Irish Para-Badminton International, further solidifying his position as a rising star in the world of para-badminton. His dedication was rewarded at the BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2022, where he secured a silver medal, overcoming his idol Bhagat in the process.
