The revised results for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG) have been released, revealing that no candidate at a particular center in Haryana scored above 682. This center had come under scrutiny after six students who took the exam on May 5th achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720. The Supreme Court ordered a retest after allegations of mark inflation due to the awarding of grace marks.
According to the center and city-wise results declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA), only 13 candidates from the Hardayal Public School center in Jhajjar, Haryana, managed to score above 600 marks. The NTA is facing controversy over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the 2024 NEET-UG, including potential paper leaks.
The NEET-UG examination was held on May 5th across 4,750 centers with approximately 24 lakh candidates participating. The results were initially expected on June 14th but were released earlier on June 4th. The NTA attributed the early release to the completion of answer sheet evaluations.
Initially, 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720, an unprecedented occurrence in the history of the testing agency. Six of these students were from the Haryana center, raising suspicions about irregularities. There have been allegations that grace marks contributed to the large number of students sharing the top rank.
The retest was conducted after the NTA withdrew grace marks awarded to students who were compensated for lost time due to delays in the start of the exam at six centers located in Meghalaya, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Chandigarh. The NEET-UG is the entrance exam for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions throughout India.
