No New Batman Game in Development, Confirms DC Studios

Rumors of a new Batman game based on the 2022 film ‘The Batman’ have been officially debunked by DC Studios. Earlier reports, citing the success of ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ and the underperformance of ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,’ suggested that WB Games was pivoting back towards the Caped Crusader, particularly the modern Dark Knight universe established in Matt Reeves’ film. These reports, originating from news site Puck, even hinted at a potential ‘Penguin’ spin-off.

However, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, who has been instrumental in shaping the company’s superhero strategy, has definitively put these rumors to rest. In response to a direct question on the social media platform Threads, Gunn stated, “Sadly there is no truth to this whatsoever.”

This confirmation comes amidst a period of fluctuating financial results for WB Games. The monumental success of ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ has set a high bar, making it difficult for other releases to match its performance. Meanwhile, ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’ fell short of expectations. As Warner Bros Discovery executive JB Perette explained during a Q2 2024 earnings call, “We went from having the record year that we had in 2023 with Hogwarts Legacy, to unfortunately having the opposite side of that spectrum with Suicide Squad.”

While the future of Batman games remains uncertain, for now, fans can rest assured that there are no new projects currently in development based on Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman.’
