Noah Weiland, son of legendary rock frontman Scott Weiland, has shared a new song featuring previously unreleased vocals from his father. The release, titled ‘Time Will Tell,’ has garnered significant attention due to the circumstances surrounding its release.
According to Noah, he was approached by an individual who threatened to leak an earlier version of the song unless he paid them $2,000. Instead of succumbing to their demands, Noah decided to proactively release the song himself.
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Noah explained that his primary motivation for releasing the song was to share his father’s music with fans. He also expressed disappointment with the lack of effort from those responsible for preserving Scott Weiland’s legacy.
‘Due to the fact that nobody who ‘represents’ my dad actually cares to give the fans new unheard music, let alone keep his name alive in the first place, my friend Spencer Carr Reed and I decided to turn it into a more modern sounding song as if he was still alive and just decided to hop on one of my songs,’ Noah said.
Rolling Stone reported that Noah provided them with screenshots of the threatening text messages he received. Noah believes he has identified the sender but has not disclosed their identity.
Scott Weiland, the iconic frontman of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in 2015 at the age of 48. Noah Weiland has been holding on to the ‘super unfinished’ demo since then, according to Rolling Stone.
The release of ‘Time Will Tell’ has received widespread coverage and has sparked discussions about the preservation of the legacies of deceased musicians and the role of family members in safeguarding their artistic creations.
