The world of high-end wireless headphones is dominated by familiar names like Sony, Sennheiser, Bose, Bowers & Wilkins, and Focal. However, a new contender has emerged, challenging the status quo with an innovative approach to audio technology. Noble, a brand known for its audiophile-grade in-ear monitors (IEMs), has unveiled its first wireless, noise-canceling headphones, the Fokus Apollo.
These headphones, priced at $649, are specifically designed for discerning listeners who prioritize exceptional sound quality. The Fokus Apollo distinguishes itself with a novel combination of drivers, making it the first of its kind to integrate both dynamic and planar magnetic technology.
Each earcup houses a 40mm dynamic driver, a common standard in wireless headphones, alongside a 14.5mm planar magnetic driver. This unique combination leverages the strengths of both driver types, with dynamic drivers excelling in low-frequency reproduction (bass) and planar drivers delivering superior clarity for higher frequencies (treble). As Noble puts it, “Two worlds collide for a stunningly blissful audio experience like no other.”
To fully utilize the potential of these drivers, the Fokus Apollo requires a high-quality audio signal. When used wirelessly, users can select from LDAC or aptX HD codecs, both of which are supported by Android smartphones running version 8.0 or later. iPhone users are limited to the AAC codec.
The headphones also boast effective noise cancellation and transparency modes, achieved through three dedicated microphones on each earcup. For crystal-clear voice calls, users can utilize the built-in microphones or opt for the included boom microphone accessory. A USB-C to 3.5mm cable is provided for analog listening, allowing users to connect the Fokus Apollo to devices without Bluetooth capabilities.
Furthermore, the Fokus Apollo supports Bluetooth Multipoint, enabling simultaneous connection to multiple devices. The Noble Fokus app facilitates managing Bluetooth Multipoint, as well as adjusting ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) and EQ settings.
In terms of battery life, Noble claims the Fokus Apollo can deliver up to 60 hours of listening time with ANC enabled and an impressive 80 hours with ANC disabled. As befitting a $649 pair of headphones, the Fokus Apollo showcases premium materials, including an anodized aluminum frame, Alcantara headband, and replaceable protein leather earpads.
With its unique dual-driver design, high-fidelity codecs, and focus on audiophile-grade sound, the Noble Fokus Apollo aims to redefine the landscape of premium wireless headphones. It will be interesting to see how it fares against established competitors in the market.
