Noida International Airport: Opening Delayed, but Key Details Unveiled

The Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is gearing up for its grand opening, though with a revised timeline. Initially slated to welcome passengers in September 2023, the airport’s inauguration has been pushed back to April 2025. The delay, according to media reports, stems from challenges encountered in procuring construction materials and equipment.

Despite the delay, anticipation for the new airport remains high, and key details about its initial operations have begun to emerge. The airport will offer 30 flights at its launch, including 25 domestic, 2 international, and 1 cargo flight. These initial routes will connect Noida to key destinations like Zurich, Singapore, Dubai, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dehradun, Hubli, and others.

IndiGo and Akasa Air are currently in discussions with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regarding both domestic and international routes. These discussions aim to finalize schedules and ensure seamless operations for passengers.

The airport’s long-term vision extends beyond its initial phase. The ultimate goal is to operate 65 daily flights, with 62 domestic, 2 international, and 1 cargo flight. This ambitious plan positions the airport as a major hub, catering to a diverse range of travel needs.

In its first phase, the airport will feature one terminal, one runway, 10 aerobridges, and 25 parking stands. As development progresses through all four phases, the airport is expected to handle a remarkable 70 million passengers annually.

The airport’s infrastructure is already being tested. On October 15, the airport successfully completed the calibration of its instrument landing system (ILS) and precision approach path indicator (PAPI). These systems ensure safe and efficient landings for pilots, particularly in challenging weather conditions.

The Noida International Airport is poised to revolutionize connectivity in the region, offering passengers convenient access to a wider range of destinations. The airport is expected to play a significant role in fostering economic growth and development in the surrounding area.
