North Korea has issued a scathing condemnation of Ukraine’s recent attack on Russia’s Kursk region, labeling it an unforgivable act of terrorism orchestrated by the United States and its Western allies. In a statement released on Sunday, North Korea’s state media asserted the country’s unwavering solidarity with Russia in its efforts to safeguard its sovereignty.
The statement, issued through the KCNA news agency, characterized Ukraine’s incursion into Russian territory as a direct consequence of the United States’ hostile and confrontational policy towards Russia, pushing the global situation dangerously close to the brink of World War III. North Korea accused the US of supplying Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with an “astronomical” quantity of lethal weapons.
North Korea’s Foreign Ministry, in a statement published by KCNA, condemned the attack as “an unforgivable act of aggression and terror” orchestrated by Zelenskyy’s “puppet regime” under the control and support of the United States and the West.
The condemnation comes as a backdrop of significantly strengthened ties between North Korea and Russia, with both leaders holding two summit meetings in the past year and pledging close cooperation across all spheres. In June, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin formalized their alliance by signing a “comprehensive strategic partnership” agreement in Pyongyang, which included a mutual defense agreement. This development highlights the deepening strategic alliance between the two nations amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
