North Korea conducts first ‘nuclear trigger’ simulation drills

In a display of defiance, North Korea conducted its inaugural nuclear counterattack drills under the direction of leader Kim Jong Un, simulating its “nuclear trigger” management system. The drills were intended to serve as an unmistakable warning to adversaries of North Korea’s nuclear capabilities. Additionally, as part of the country’s first such exercises, artillery forces participated in a demonstration of varied nuclear abilities and denounced the “provocative and invasive” military exercises conducted by the US and South Korea.

According to KCNA, Kim supervised the simulation drills, which included troop maneuvers assuming a nuclear counterattack posture and the firing of artillery equipped with mock nuclear warheads in the event of a nuclear crisis alert. Furthermore, North Korea is believed to be preparing the launch of another spy satellite after successfully placing a reconnaissance satellite in orbit in November. Last week, North Korea reported testing a strategic cruise missile equipped with a substantial warhead and a novel anti-aircraft missile.
