North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has supervised a drill simulating a ‘nuclear counterattack,’ involving ‘super-large multiple rocket units’ that precisely hit a target 352 kilometers away, according to state-run KCNA news agency.
The drill took place on Monday, with Seoul’s military announcing that the North had fired several short-range ballistic missiles. Tokyo confirmed the launch.
The drill involved multiple rocket units that targeted an island 352 kilometers away, with Kim expressing appreciation for the missiles’ high accuracy. South Korea’s military confirmed that the missiles traveled about 300 kilometers before landing in the waters east of the Korean peninsula.
This launch marks the second by Pyongyang in less than a week, following Friday’s test of a ‘super-large warhead’ for a strategic cruise missile. Seoul’s military detected cruise missile launches during that incident.
The launches come amid Moscow’s recent use of its United Nations Security Council veto to end UN monitoring of sanctions violations on Kim’s government for its nuclear and weapons program.
