NorthEast United FC put on a dominant display, overwhelming Odisha FC with a resounding 5-1 victory in their concluding Group E match of the 133rd Durand Cup. The match, held at the SAI Stadium in Kokrajhar, saw NorthEast United maintain their perfect record, securing a place in the quarterfinals.
Jithin M.S was the star of the show for the Highlanders, scoring twice in the first half, netting in the 17th and 20th minutes. The goals set the tone for a dominant performance, and NorthEast United continued to press their advantage.
Adding to their tally, Guillermo Fernandez found the back of the net in the 75th minute, and Thoi Singh followed suit with a goal in the 85th minute. Odisha FC’s Tankadhar Bag inadvertently contributed to the NorthEast United scoreline, scoring an own goal in the 56th minute.
While Odisha FC managed to pull one goal back through Paogoumang Singson in the 64th minute, it was a mere consolation as NorthEast United cruised to victory.
The win saw NorthEast United finish atop Group E with a perfect nine points from their three matches. Odisha FC, on the other hand, finished their campaign with just three points and crashed out of the tournament.
