NorthEast United FC has created history, winning their first-ever major trophy by claiming the Durand Cup 2024 title. The Highlanders battled back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Mohun Bagan SG in a thrilling penalty shootout, ending the match 2-2 (4-3 on penalties).
Mohun Bagan took an early lead in the 10th minute when Jason Cummins converted a penalty. Sahal Abdul Samad doubled the lead just before halftime, putting Mohun Bagan in a comfortable position. However, NorthEast United mounted a spirited comeback in the second half. Ajaraie equalized in the 55th minute, followed by Guillermo’s goal just three minutes later, turning the game on its head.
