The Wild Atlantic Way, one of the world’s most picturesque driving routes, is set to expand further into Northern Ireland in a move designed to boost tourism in the region. The potential extension would add to the existing 1,600-mile route, which currently runs along Ireland’s west coast and showcases stunning coastal landscapes and cultural attractions.
The proposed extension would connect the Wild Atlantic Way to the Causeway Coastal Route in Northern Ireland, creating a seamless driving experience that spans the entire island. This would allow tourists to explore popular attractions such as the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare and the Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim in one continuous journey.

In a speech at a Tourism NI conference in Belfast, Stormont Economy Minister Conor Murphy highlighted the potential benefits of extending the Wild Atlantic Way, as well as linking up other tourism brands such as the Hidden Heartlands and Ireland’s Ancient East.

SDLP leader Colum Eastwood praised the move, stating that the Wild Atlantic Way has been a major asset to communities along the west coast, generating billions of euros in tourism revenue annually. He emphasized the opportunity to extend the brand into Northern Ireland, noting that deeper integration would deliver positive outcomes for businesses and communities in the North West.
