Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Donates $50,000 to Aid Juneau Flood Recovery

In a significant act of support for the community of Juneau, Alaska, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) has announced a $50,000 donation to the Juneau Community Foundation. This contribution aims to alleviate the financial hardship faced by residents recovering from the devastating floods caused by the release of water from the Mendenhall Glacier.

The recent flooding, described as the most severe in Juneau’s history, resulted in widespread damage, including submerged homes and displacement of numerous residents. NCLH’s donation will bolster a dedicated fund established to assist with expenses that may not be covered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Dan Farkas, executive vice president, general counsel, and chief development officer at NCLH, emphasized the company’s strong ties to the Juneau community and expressed deep concern for the residents impacted by the floods. “We are deeply connected to the Juneau community, and witnessing the devastation from the recent flood has been heart-wrenching,” said Farkas. “Juneau is not just a destination for us; it’s a community we truly care about. ‘Strengthening Our Communities’ is a key pillar of our global Sail & Sustain program, and we feel a profound responsibility to stand by the residents of Juneau in their time of need. Our donation is focused on providing direct financial relief to help families rebuild their lives and facilitate a fast return to normalcy.”

The Juneau Community Foundation is actively accepting applications from residents affected by the disaster. A simple, one-page form needs to be completed to apply for the assistance. By the end of September, the foundation will review these applications and begin distributing funds to those in need. For further details on how to contribute or apply for the fund, individuals are encouraged to visit the Juneau Community Foundation’s website.

Amy Skilbred, executive director of the Juneau Community Foundation, expressed gratitude for NCLH’s generous donation, highlighting its crucial role in the community’s recovery efforts. “We are grateful for NCLH’s generous donation, which will play a crucial role in helping our community recover from this disaster,” said Skilbred. “This fund will allow us to quickly and effectively provide financial support to residents who are struggling to rebuild their homes and lives.”

The Juneau Community Foundation, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of residents in Juneau, prioritizes meeting essential community needs through collaborative and philanthropic initiatives. This donation from NCLH demonstrates a powerful example of how businesses can actively contribute to community recovery efforts during times of crisis.
