In a picturesque ceremony held in the small Norwegian town of Geiranger, Princess Märtha Louise, the eldest child of the Norwegian King, married Durek Verrett, an American self-proclaimed shaman. The wedding, dubbed Norway’s wedding of the year, drew a star-studded guest list including social media influencers, reality stars, and TV personalities.
The ceremony, which took place on Saturday following three days of festivities, was attended by the 87-year-old King Harald, Queen Sonja, and other members of the Norwegian royal house. Representing the Swedish royal house were Crown Princess Victoria, her husband Prince Daniel, her brother Prince Carl Philip, and his wife Princess Sofia. However, no other European royals attended the event.
Verrett, who claims to be a sixth-generation shaman from California, has faced widespread criticism in Norway, with many labeling him a conman and conspiracy theorist for his ‘alternative medicine’ practices. He has previously attributed much of the controversy surrounding the couple’s relationship to racism.
Princess Märtha Louise has also faced criticism over the years for her involvement in alternative medicine and spirituality practices. In 2007, she declared herself clairvoyant and expressed her desire to help people communicate with angels. This, along with her marriage to Verrett, has sparked heated debates about the intersection of spirituality, celebrity, and royal family traditions in Norway.
