Nottingham Forest are reportedly preparing legal action against Sky Sports after pundit Gary Neville’s ‘mafia gang’ comment about their statement regarding the refereeing decisions during their defeat to Everton.
Forest are unhappy with Neville’s remarks and believe they have a strong case against Sky Sports. The club’s legal team is currently drafting a letter that will be sent to the broadcaster.
In a statement, Forest said: ‘We are considering our options and will take the strongest possible action to protect the reputation of the club and its supporters.’
Neville’s comments came after Forest released a statement criticizing the refereeing performance in their 2-0 defeat to Everton. The club claimed that they were denied three legitimate penalty decisions, with two of the decisions going against Ashley Young.
Forest also alleged that the VAR official, Stuart Attwell, is a Luton Town supporter, and suggested that he may have been biased against them due to their rivalry with Luton.
Attwell has since denied any wrongdoing, and the Premier League has also defended its decision to appoint him for the match.
However, Forest remain unhappy with the situation and are demanding that the Premier League release the audio footage from the match so that they can understand the decision-making process behind each call.
They are also calling for new rules to prevent officials from being involved in matches that have implications for the club that they support.
