Nottingham Pub Crowned Britain’s Best Dog-Friendly Pub

Calling all dog lovers! The Lion at Basford in Nottingham has earned the prestigious title of Britain’s best dog-friendly pub. This recognition comes after a nationwide search by Rover, an online pet care marketplace.

The pub has been praised for its dedication to creating a welcoming environment for both humans and their four-legged friends. Ella Wolfenden, the landlady of The Lion at Basford, says, “We’ve always rolled out the red carpet for canine customers, from doggy ice cream to a first aid kit behind the bar. We’ve created an environment where dogs can socialise, eat, drink and enjoy the pub just like their owners.”

The judges, who included 11 dedicated pet owners, were particularly impressed by the pub’s dog-friendly amenities, its warm hospitality, and its dog-friendly policies.

“As it scored extremely highly on factors such as doggy amenities, hospitality and dog-friendly policies, we’re delighted that The Lion at Basford has been recognised for their efforts in making their pub a wonderfully welcome place for canine friends to visit,” says Adem Fehmi, Rover’s canine behaviourist.

The Lion at Basford isn’t the only pub to receive recognition for its dog-friendliness. Several other pubs across the UK were highly commended, including The Burnt Stump in Arnold, the West End Bar in Pittenweem, Fife, and The Punch House in Monmouth.

This news comes as a survey reveals that a significant majority of dog owners – three in five – wish all pubs were suitable for their furry companions. The survey also found that seven in ten regulars believe dogs make great ice-breakers with fellow drinkers, and a majority even believe they make better company than children!

It seems the demand for dog-friendly pubs is growing, and The Lion at Basford has set a high standard for others to follow. So, the next time you’re looking for a pub that welcomes both humans and their canine companions, be sure to check out this award-winning establishment in Nottingham.
