Goran Djokovic, the uncle of tennis icon Novak Djokovic, has taken the reins of the Serbian Tennis Federation. Elected as president on Friday, Goran Djokovic brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as vice-president of the federation and playing a key role in organizing ATP tournaments in Belgrade and Sofia.
Djokovic emphasized his ambition to establish a national training center, a long-standing goal for the federation. “My tennis experience mainly comes from Novak, but I also spent seven years as director of the Serbia Open and Sofia Open,” he stated after his election. “My goal is to keep improving what we’ve started, with finances being the key. We don’t have our own facilities, we don’t have a National Training Centre, and I want to resolve that. I wouldn’t have even run for this position if we didn’t have the full support of the president of Serbia.”
With the backing of the Serbian government, Goran Djokovic is poised to make significant strides in developing Serbian tennis. His nephew, Novak Djokovic, currently ranked fourth in the world, has achieved legendary status with 24 Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal. The federation, under Goran Djokovic’s leadership, aims to build upon this legacy and nurture the next generation of Serbian tennis stars.
