Stock Market Holiday: NSE, BSE Closed Today for Mumbai Elections

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will observe a holiday today, May 20, due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai. All sections of the exchanges, including SLB, derivative, and equity, will be closed for trading for the entire day.

However, the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain open for trading during the evening session from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM/11:55 PM. The morning session of the MCX will be closed.

In addition to the stock market holiday, banks and some educational institutions in Belapur and Mumbai will also be closed today.

The fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 is currently underway, with voting taking place in 49 Lok Sabha seats spread across six states and two Union territories. Polling is scheduled to take place in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Maharashtra today, May 20.

The first four phases of the Lok Sabha elections have already been completed, with voting held on April 19, April 26, May 7, and May 13.

According to the stock market holiday calendar for 2024, markets will be closed on the following dates:

* July 17: Muharram
* August 15: Independence Day
* October 2: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
* November 1: Diwali
* November 15: Guru Nanak Jayanti
* December 25: Christmas
