NS&I’s Password Warning: Limited Login Attempts
NS&I, a government-backed savings and investments organization, has highlighted the importance of password security for its customers. According to NS&I, individuals have only five chances to log into their accounts before their passwords are suspended.
This warning came to light when a Premium Bonds holder reached out to NS&I on Twitter, expressing concerns about the password authentication process. The customer questioned why phone numbers were not mandatory during registration, as they had encountered difficulties adding a phone number after registering. NS&I responded by explaining that two digits of the password are required for phone authentication, but the agent does not have access to the entire password.
NS&I emphasized that if there is an error in the system or incorrect characters are entered, the system will ask for two different characters instead. However, only five login attempts are allowed before the password is suspended. This measure is implemented to prevent unauthorized access and protect customer accounts.
