On Tuesday, May 28th, 2023, Telugu cinema actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Jr., popularly known as NTR Jr., paid tribute to his grandfather and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), on the occasion of his 101st birth anniversary. NTR Jr. was seen offering prayers with folded hands at the NTR ghat, along with his brother Nandamuri Kalyanram and other family members.
Prominent actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna, NTR’s son, was also present at the ghat to pay homage to his late father. Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, and other leaders and film personalities also paid their respects to the legendary NTR.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered NTR as a remarkable icon of Telugu cinema and a visionary leader. He further added that NTR’s contributions to the film industry and politics continue to inspire generations.
Venkaiah Naidu, in a post on social media, described NTR as the heartbeat and symbol of self-respect of Telugu people. He stated that NTR won accolades as an actor for his performances in mythological roles and ushered in a new era in politics.
Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, fondly known as NTR, was not only an actor but also a producer, director, editor, and politician. He served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years and was widely recognized for his work in the film industry. NTR received three National Film Awards for co-producing ‘Thodu Dongalu’ (1954) and ‘Seetharama Kalyanam’ (1960) and directing ‘Varakatnam’ (1970).
NTR Jr’s highly anticipated upcoming films include ‘Devara,’ starring Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor, and Ayan Mukerji’s ‘War 2.’
