NVIDIA and Siam.AI Cloud Launch Thailand’s ‘Sovereign AI’ Initiative, Boosting National Digital Transformation

Thailand is taking a significant leap forward in artificial intelligence with the launch of a groundbreaking “sovereign AI” initiative. Last week, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, during the AI Vision event in Bangkok, joined forces with Siam.AI Cloud, Thailand’s first NVIDIA Cloud Partner, to unveil this ambitious project. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in Thailand’s national digital transformation strategy, placing the country among a select group of nations leading the charge in AI development.

Siam.AI Cloud, a key player in this endeavor, has forged comprehensive partnerships with leading Thai institutions. Their collective aim is to harness the power of AI for national development. This isn’t just about infrastructure; it’s about empowering Thailand with its own AI capabilities, built on homegrown data, talent, and networks. The initiative underscores the burgeoning importance of “sovereign AI,” a concept frequently highlighted by Huang, referring to a nation’s capacity to leverage its own resources to create and control its AI infrastructure.

Huang emphasized the remarkable achievement, stating, “Thailand recognizes the importance of having AI infrastructure and data. Siam AI Cloud is the first AI cloud in Thailand, the first AI language in Thailand, with the OpenThai GPT local large language model – an extraordinary moment. And frankly, there are only 20 countries in the world that have done this.” He dispelled the myth of exorbitant costs associated with building AI infrastructure, suggesting that investments in the hundreds of thousands of dollars can yield substantial returns in terms of GDP growth.

The project’s vision goes beyond mere technological advancement. Huang stressed the importance of cultivating a skilled workforce, emphasizing that the success of sovereign AI hinges on equipping the younger generation with the necessary skills to thrive in this rapidly evolving technological landscape. He eloquently stated, “The data of Thailand… it belongs to the Thai people. It is your natural resource. This AI industry will produce intelligence, a commodity that, though invisible, will be one of the most valuable resources in the world.”

Siam.AI Cloud’s commitment to this initiative is further solidified by the official launch of its high-performance NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU cluster. With plans to expand with next-generation H200 Tensor Core GPUs and GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips, Siam.AI Cloud is positioning itself at the forefront of Thailand’s AI revolution.

Ratanaphon Wongnapachant, CEO of Siam.AI Cloud, succinctly summarized the initiative’s overarching goal: “Our mission extends beyond infrastructure deployment to establishing Thailand’s sovereign capabilities in AI.” This collaboration between NVIDIA and Siam.AI Cloud represents a significant step towards solidifying Thailand’s position as a leader in the global AI landscape, driving economic growth and technological independence through innovative partnerships and forward-thinking strategies.
