The Nvidia Shield TV line, last refreshed in 2019, has been consistently ranked among the best Android TV devices. With five years since the last update, many are wondering what features could be included in a refresh.
One of the most anticipated features is an updated Tegra chip. The current Tegra chip is starting to show its age, and a new one would provide a significant performance boost for local Android games and other demanding tasks.
Another feature that we would like to see is SDR to HDR upscaling. The Shield’s 2019 generation was known for its AI upscaling, which could upscale content from 720p or 1080p up to 4K. A similar feature for SDR to HDR would make a new version of the Shield TV incredibly compelling.
Beyond hardware updates, a refresh would also be a good opportunity to improve the Shield TV’s software. At the bare minimum, Nvidia should update the device to Google TV. Google TV is a more modern and user-friendly interface than the current Android TV interface.
Finally, we would also like to see Nvidia improve the Shield TV’s remote. The current remote is functional, but it’s not particularly comfortable to use. A new remote with a more ergonomic design and backlit buttons would be a welcome addition.
These are just a few of the features that we would like to see in a new Nvidia Shield TV. With its excellent performance, features, and support, the Shield TV is already one of the best Android TV devices on the market. A refresh with the latest features would only make it better.
