Nvidia’s highly anticipated RTX 50-series graphics cards have been shrouded in mystery, with release dates constantly shifting. Early predictions pointed to a late 2024 launch, but the consensus gradually moved towards early 2025. Now, a new leak from Benchlife has thrown another curveball, suggesting a potential September release for the RTX 5090D and RTX 5080D, built on the Blackwell architecture. The “D” designation indicates a China-exclusive launch, but considering Nvidia’s usual global release strategy, a worldwide rollout seems more likely.
While the publication hasn’t provided concrete details, the September timeline contradicts Nvidia’s past GPU release patterns. The RTX 20-series, RTX 30-series, and RTX 40-series all launched two years apart, typically during the final quarter of the year. Moreover, announcing a product a quarter in advance and then releasing it in January doesn’t seem to align with Nvidia’s typical approach.
The leak does align with previous reports regarding power consumption. The RTX 5090 is rumored to draw a whopping 600 watts, while the RTX 5080 is speculated to consume 400W, both significant increases from the current generation.
So, is a September launch for the RTX 50-series truly on the horizon? At this point, it’s difficult to say for certain. A release this month would undoubtedly be a welcome surprise in a year that has been relatively underwhelming for PC hardware. However, with AMD’s RDNA 4 and Intel’s Battlemage GPUs potentially launching in early 2025, Nvidia doesn’t have an urgent need to rush the release.
Only time will tell if these latest rumors hold any weight. Until then, the gaming community awaits with bated breath for any official confirmation from Nvidia.
